Zaxxon RetroRemake - HomePage

Zaxxon was a classic game from 1982 that was unusual as an isometric shoot-em-up. I'd never written a game before and the 2003 Retro Remakes competition made me think of writing a retro game, there are many Pacman and Asteroid clones so I was surprised that no-one had tried to remake Zaxxon. Anyway here is my Work-in-progress so far...

27 July 2004 - Work in progress 0.4.124 (powerup)

Why was this website out of date?. Well, anyway, seeing as though I've got to update it anyway, here is what precious little I've done in my 'pc' spare time since holiday and such.
The changes include, powerups when you shoot a radar, autofire on as default and the ability to shoot enemy bullets. These all should make the game a little bit easier since most of the feedback has hinted that it was too hard as it was (I think I'm too used to testing it).

The next major update should include the Super Zaxxon Levels which are progressing but still not complete so are not included in this release.
Another area of development are the graphics which I want to improve, I'll do this in time but I hope to put all of the sprites and backgrounds into a download incase any kind soul wants to have a little look at improving them.
At the moment the graphics are 8bpp but I doubt 24bpp or 32bpp would have much of a performace cost
On that note I've identified a few areas that I can speed up so performance should improve in future releases - but I don't think I'll be happy until there's an OpenGL Zax3D.

Well, after a little rewriting it had become a bit too unstable for a release during the spring. Here's the latest update.
